The Game of Life - Shattered Dreams

I have just finished reading 'Ramayana : The Game of Life - Shattered Dreams (Book 2)'. First of all I’m not a great fan of spiritual/mythological Novels and I haven’t yet read the prequel of this book. But it gave me a knock on my head and I have decided to order the prequel! Subha Vilas’s most awaited book, the sequel to his bestseller Rise of Sun Prince : Book 1 is one of its kind, I would say.

To be frank, this is one such book which will force you to slow down the reading and each bit of knowledge imparted will set forth your thoughts. You might even start to analyze your real life incidents based on mythological events.
Nope, I’m not exaggerating!

The Game of Life series is a nice blend of Spiritual and Motivational elements. He is not just retelling Ramayana through these 6 books, instead it is his way of filling all the blanks or answering all the mystic questions which might anchor in your mind after reading Ramayana.

Book begins with conflicts happening inside Dasaratha’s head.  Followed by, his decision to step down and crown his beloved son.  We all know what happened afterwards, but Subha has provided crisp explanations for all those turn of events till Rama’s exile. It also gives a glimpse of villainous warlord Ravana’s battles too. (It seems, the next book will be dedicated entirely to paint Ravana’s life.)

Subha has given great deal of emphasis to explain the story in every key character’s point of view. Truth is always relative to the version of the story which we believe in, right? Bharat’s agony and emotional outbreak of everybody who wanted Rama on throne are remarkably moving. I’m not sure if anybody else has uplifted Bharat’s character this much. He is not evil queen Keikey’s dear son, but a prince who is forced to pick up the only option left to him, which made me like this book more. The way the versions of Sita and Urmila are explained, is again quite different.
(Not just Amar chitra kadha, I have read slightly adapted versions of Ramayana and Mahabharatha when I was a kid, like most other Indians. :D )

Oops.. I forgot to mention the main point, the book can be divided into 2. Rama’s tale after his marriage and Subha’s wisdoms in nutshell. I bet, once you finish reading the book you will have a tendency to go back and read all those wise sayings again( and again).

I don’t think I will ever be able to pick my favorite, because each wise point is apt in some or other instance. But hey, I am listing a few of them here :
  • “When humans learn to celebrate each other’s success rather than plan one another’s failure, they develop concrete relationships rather than concrete jungles.”
  • “Confidence is the key to all doors, but overconfidence is the lock to all doors. Confidence leads to inspiration, but overconfidence leads to perspiration.”
  • “When your actions boomerang as reactions, rather than wondering who threw it at you, you should wonder when you threw it.”
  • “Destiny unfolds itself of its own accord. Trying to make destiny respond to our urgency or shape it to our needs is like breaking an egg to hasten the hatching process.”
My verdict?
Must read stuff. This book is also a small encyclopedia of Management skills! :D

Looking forward to read the forthcoming Game of Life books.

'God is a Gamer' ?

God is a Gamer, at a glance
In an explosion which shakes US, a diplomat dies. FBI begins the investigation, but it leads them nowhere.
At the same time in India, Aditya an ex-banker, who is running his own BPO (‘eTIOS’) has incubated an online gaming company named ‘indiscape’. Reunion with his long lost son Varun, who is cold intelligent brings huge gains to the gaming company.
Phishing scam is disturbing the reputation of a well reputed bank in which Aditya worked for ages and at the same time, a well planned ATM heist operation again gives a blow to the Bank authorities.
Mystery takes us deep when Chairman of Indian wing of the bank dies falling down from rooftop of a skyscraper. This banker’s relation with the central finance minister stirs up a lot of rumors and for a while, it serves enough content for all news papers and channels.
All these plots comprising the stories of Bankers, Gamers, Politicians, Investigating Officers, Diplomats, Drug dealers and Terrorists are interwoven.
A world where the virtual money is the root of all the illegal activities, “nothing is as it seems”.

Ravi Subramanian

‘God is a Gamer’ is the seventh book written by the IIM alumnus banker Ravi Subramanian. What Forbes mentioned about him defines him in one sentence. “Banker by day, Writer by night”!

As expected, this thriller also has non-linear narration. Well that is not a surprise, right ?
Wait. Before explaining my viewpoints on the book, I must confess that I haven’t read any of Ravi’s previous books. It is because, I have heard that Ravi’s plots are based in the cocoon in which he is working for ages. He was a banker for ages and now he is leading some financial institutions. I was not interested in financial terms either.
So I was thinking I will never ever like reading a thriller about financial crime. But this book proved me wrong.
(I have decided to collect and read his 5 previous fictions as soon as possible.)

Are you also worried that you won’t like a thriller about virtual coins? The story was quiet fascinating for me, who knew nothing about Bit coins till reading the book! Somebody who is from banking backgrounds, (who know everything about the virtual coins) will also enjoy it!! The detailing is just in right proportions. That’s the sign of good editing, right?

At first, you will feel that he is forcefully introducing a lot of characters and sub-plots, but everything has got a reason. Ravi has spent a lot time structuring the 3 acts. He must have started with the act 3 and planned past sequences from that incident. Anyway, the novel is way better than other Indian authored English books.

If you think deep, you will realize that some sub-plots were weak. But that doesn’t matter. Right from the Prologue the book will make you glued to it.

The narration gradually attained pace and it is too gripping till the two-thirds of book. Then the graph again falls down in progression. When you are reading the last 2 chapters, you might even think that this book wasted your time. Well I felt so. And then, Bang!!
The epilogue changed my mind again. It is full of twists and twirls.

Once I finished reading the novel, I realized that the details given on the back cover is true to the core.
“God is a Gamer is a world where money means nothing, martyrs are villains, predators are prey, assassination is taught by ancient Greeks, and nothing is as it seems”.

Deep Dive to the depths of Hell...

Aha nearly 70 hits in a week !

So as promised earlier I will write about Jovan’s second book in this post....
‘Dancing with the Avatar’...

If you are asking me to talk about this book in a sentence...mmm... well I would recommend you to read ‘Chasing the Avatar’ first...and if you have already read it...then this book will exceed your expectations for sure !

Maya dreamt of a successful spiritual life and started her life in India being a devotee of the Avatar ‘Cha Ma’. With first book Jovan shared her voyage and transition from Dreams to Nightmares, where as this book gives clear picture of her damned and pathetic life in depths of darkness...

The last part of the first book will wake up the inquisitiveness in reader to know more about her and to know how is she gonna survive ! So for all those who are expecting a sudden dramatic change from the miserable life will become desperate initially with Jovan’s way of narration....
My dear fellows this is not some relic hunting Hollywood movie plot for such great twists and escapes !!  This is an autobiographical novel. I hope she has tried level best to limit exaggerations and not to fictionize her whole novel !

Those who don’t have much patience may feel that some portions are a bit slow n dragging....
But that’s quite natural in novel sequel which explains every experience in detail...

The pain and distress which Maya suffers as she sinks into the pitch dark life will anchor in every reader’s heart for sure... Jovan has explained everything in detail and the reading experience will take you to India virtually...

Avatar’s rituals gave her more stress and ill health ..
Mean while back in US her parents prays to Christ for shielding their daughter...
In deed the whole book is based on the power and effects of prayers straight from heart ! You’ll move closer to Christ if you finish reading this book.

Ah and also to glue more readers with the book Jovan has added a bit of romance with her usual flavours...Maya and Narayan falls for each other in midst of all these miserable conditions...
Strange huh !?
But I assure that you won’t get disappointed because of the unexpected way of romance narration....

The way in which novel ends will disturb you.........because you will be forced to wait for her next book to be out, to know what happened to Maya ultimately !  :D
Yeah the Saga continues...

With lots of love n regards,

Chasing Maya...

After reading this post if you count me as a paid writer who blogs for advertising the book about which I’m gonna write in this post, it would be awkward... So let me introduce myself in a few words...
Well I am a Christian boy, 20, pursuing bachelor of engineering (at present pre-final year)...
So now let me get back to the point...
I was in search of a good topic to start blogging. Of course googling and wiking will answer almost every doubt, and I don’t find sense in creating some absurd ditto web documents !
So came to the conclusion that whatever I blog should be the essence of my views and experiences...
The pile of books in my shelf gave me an answer..., a vibrant new topic for my first blog post..., ’CHASING the AVATAR’
’CHASING the AVATAR’ by Jovan Jones is not a mere fictionalized novel trying to inculcate someone’s imagination into our brain. Its Jovan’s autobiographical depiction of what she encountered here in India in search of truth, faith and enlightenment.
Maya(hmm...thats how Jovan calls herself in the novel) was pursuing her doctoral studies and as most of the youths, she also had a lot of confusions regarding spiritual life. Indeed a spiritual battle was going on in her head. She even deliberately experimented some rare religions and found them not suiting for her ! Later she gained more knowledge regarding Hinduism and Budhism and finally under a friend’s guidance she came to meet a Guru ‘Cha ma’ or this so called Avatar.
She was in a way addicted to all those sudden spiritual experiences and in the new dizziness of tremendous change she forgets herself ! Leaving behind her mom, dad and Jesus Christ she left with this Avatar to India. She believed the Avatar blindly n thought that she was gaining some kind of better warmth and peace from this new psycho life.
Jovan’s descriptions of her life as Avatar’s devotee, rituals and unending mental and physical struggles in South India will be shocking for those who are trying to seek solace by following such Avatars !
Her mother’s love and prayers to Jesus Christ to save her daughter works well both in her real life and in the Novel. Of course whoever calls on the name of Lord shall be saved.
Jovan was born and brought up as a Christian and hence her style of explaining experiences enroots well in Christian perspective and the Holy Bible. But I don’t think this will ever act as a hindrance to non-Christian readers. Also all the complex terms related to the rituals mentioned in book could be found in its appendix.
Hence in short Jovan’s novel gives enhanced reading experience and our mind will indeed chase Maya and her fate all the way from US to India. In many points the mental stress n strain because of being in midst such pitch black of dark beliefs will make us relate our lives to that of character Maya’s. Her pathetic life after her foolishness to flee from the Holy Bible and later the miracles of believing in Christ ultimately are well depicted in the book.
Confusions regarding spirituality may happen in any phase of our life and therefore I would recommend this book to all those Christians who are not counting Jesus Christ as their one and only redeemer and who have clogged their minds with thoughts to be the disciples of such greedy Avatars.

With God’s grace if I’m able earn some hits n comments for this post, then I will try my level best to review its sequel in my next post.
With lots of love n regards,
Lone Warrior
